
Five Run First Not Enough As Scrappers Fall to Muckdogs

(Batavia, NY)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers stormed out to a five run first inning, but the offense would be held silent until the ninth inning as the Batavia Muckdogs rallied for a 8-7 win on Thursday night at Dwyer stadium.
Tyler Freeman got the first inning started with a double to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Mitch Reeves followed with a double to score Freeman. Reeves would then score on an RBI double from Hosea Nelson. Nelson would come around to score on an error after Clark Scolamiero reached on a walk. Henry Pujols then capped off the inning with a two run homer to left for a 5-0 lead.
Batavia would answer back with two runs in the first and two runs in the third. They would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh with two more runs. Batavia capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with another two run inning.
The Scrappers would rally in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Freeman singled. Reeves followed with a two run homer to left to pull the Scrappers to within a run. Unfortunately, the Scrappers couldn't get the tying run on base.
Cameron Mingo started and took a no decision in 5.0 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits. Mingo walked 3 and struck out 6. Jordan Scheftz (1-1) took the loss in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 2 earned runs on 2 hits. Scheftz walked 1 and struck out 2.
The Scrappers (28-16) and Muckdogs continue their series in Batavia on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. The Scrappers return home on Sunday to open a three game series with the State College Spikes.
