Florence Y'alls News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - It took Florence a little while to wake up offensively Friday night against Windy City, but when they did the result was six combined runs in the seventh and the eighth innings to gain separation on the way to a 7-2 win at Ozinga Field.
With the win, Florence (12-18) has won three of four games so far on this road trip and five of the past six games overall. The Y'alls have won three of the first four games in the season series against the ThunderBolts (14-16), who have lost eight of the past 11 games.
It was a pitcher's duel early between Windy City's Sebastian Selway and Florence's Jonaiker Villalobos, with Selway allowing just one run in the fifth inning on a Joe Lytle home run and Villalobos taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Villalobos would surrender a run in the sixth inning thanks to a Dan Robinson sacrifice fly.
Tied at 1-1 going to the seventh, the Y'alls started stringing together some hits and capitalized on some bad defense for Windy City. Andres Sthormes drove home a run with a single and Ray Zuberer III played small ball with a safety squeeze to force in another run. After that, Florence scored twice more in the seventh on two different errors.
Leading 5-3 going to the eighth inning after a Jace Mercer RBI single for the ThunderBolts, Florence scored twice more thanks to a Lytle RBI single and a wild pitch to score him a few batters later. Windy City would commit two more errors in the eighth inning and ended up with five mishaps in the game.
Lytle, Sthormes, and Ethan Stern each had two hits apiece for Florence. Kent Klyman earns the win for the Y'alls thanks to two innings out of the bullpen and only one run allowed. Neil Abbatiello takes the loss for Windy City after being charged with four runs (three earned) in that seventh inning disaster.
Windy City and Florence are in action again tomorrow, Saturday, June 18, at Ozinga Field to conclude a mini two-game weekend series. First pitch is set for 6:05 PM CDT. With a win, the Y'alls will have their first series "sweep" of the 2022 season. Florence sends Grant Hockin to the mound for his first start of the year, matching up with Garrett Christman for Windy City.
