Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts fell behind the Lake Erie Crushers 7-0 in the fourth inning Thursday night at Ozinga Field. They fought their way back and made it a one-run game before coming up short in a 7-6 loss.
Lake Erie (13-17) got their first run in the top of the first, loading the bases on two singles and a walk. Miguel Ausua almost got out of it, getting Jake Gitter to hit a grounder to second. Jace Mercer was unable to make the play and the first run came home.
The score remained 1-0 into the fourth, when Lake Erie broke it open. Connor Owings hit an RBI double before another critical error kept the inning alive. Devon Fisher brought home two runs on a triple as part of a six-run rally that gave the Crushers their biggest lead.
The ThunderBolts (14-15) chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Mercer was hit by a pitch and Peyton Isaacson hit a two-run homer.
In the fifth, three more scored. Dan Robinson drew a bases loaded walk and Daryl Myers followed with a two-run single. Jairus Richards hit an RBI single in the sixth to bring the Bolts within one but they couldn't get over the hump as they fell by that lone run.
Ausua (1-1) allowed four runs (two earned) over 3.1 innings and took the loss. Joseph Sgambelluri (4-1) pitched his worst game of the season, allowing six runs in 5.1 innings but he came away with the win. Alexis Rivero pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
The ThunderBolts begin a two-game series against the Florence Y'alls at 7:05 on Friday night. Sebastian Selway (1-1, 6.60) will make his first professional start for the Bolts. It is Princess and Pirate Night at Ozinga Field with a postgame fireworks show. The game broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
