Yager with Two Points in Canada's Win over Germany

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Yager had a goal and two points in a 6-3 win for Canada over Germany at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk also picked up an assist in the win.

Yager scored his second of the tournament late in the first period to put Canada in front 2-1 after one.

The Pittsburgh Penguins first round pick would also set up Macklin Celebrini for Canada's fifth goal in the third period, helping to seal the win.

Yager finished with two shots over 14:47 of ice time. The 18-year-old forward now has two goals and four points through four preliminary round games.

Mateychuk, who led Canada with 26:59 of ice time, assisted on Ethan Cowan's empty net goal late in the third.

The Columbus Blue Jackets first round pick has four assists in the tournament and is plus-six through four games.

Warriors forward Jagger Firkus has joined Canada in Sweden, but didn't dress in the game.

Celebrini had two goals and Owen Beck scored the other goal for Canada in the win.

With the victory, Canada secures second place in Group A and will set up a match-up with Czechia in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7 a.m.

The other quarterfinals will see Sweden face Switzerland, the United States go up against Latvia and Finland take on Slovakia.
