Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans (20-25) were unable to contain the Sioux City Explorers offense as they would fall 10-2 Tuesday night at Pelican Park. After jumping out to an early lead the Explorers never looked back as they posted seven runs to silence the Pelicans. On the night, the Pelicans' pitching staff surrendered 22 hits, a franchise record.

The Explorers jumped out of the gate to a quick three run lead in the top of the first inning. With one out and bases loaded, three consecutive RBI singles from Chris Grossman, Juan Camacho and Juan Senreiso gave the X's and early 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Pelican's Rafael Alvarez ripped a double down the right field line to score Francisco Leandro, who walked, to give the Pelicans their first run of the game.

The Pels tack on another run in the bottom half of the third to cut the Explorer's lead down to one. Leandro led off the inning with a double down the left field line to put him in scoring position. After advancing to third on a groundout by Alvarez, Brandon Sing drove in Leandro on a base hit to left, making it a 3-2 ballgame.

A big four run inning sent nine Explorers to the plate in the top of the fifth inning. Alex Llanos walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a Walter Young single to right. A wild pitch from John Webb scored Llanos from third. With two runners on, Senreiso line a ball off the left center field wall to clear the bases. Chad Gabriel grounded a sharply hit ball to shortstop to score Senreiso, who advanced to third on a wild pitch, for the fourth run of the inning giving the X's a 7-2 lead.

The Explorers tacked on another run on three singles in the top half of the sixth to put the score at 8-2.

Two more runs would cross the board for the Explorers as Llanos and Young hit back-to-back homeruns in the top of the eight putting the X's up 10-2.

The Pelicans are off tomorrow and will resume play on Thursday against the visiting Grand Prairie Airhogs. The Pels will host the Airhogs for the final three games of the season.
