
X's Remain Winless n Day Game Loss to RailCats

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers remain winless to start the 2016 campaign, falling to Gary Southshore by a score of 10-6 in the morning contest at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Gary Southshore scored early and often in the first inning. Scoring three runs on a pair of RBI singles, giving them the quick 3-0 lead to start the early morning contest.
Explorers answered in the bottom of the first inning, plating a run of their own. X's designated hitter Derrick Robinson started the bottom half of the first with a lead-off triple, allowing him to score on a sacrifice-fly by Noah Perio later in the inning.
The Railcats tacked on one more in the second inning. Cameron Newell led-off the second inning with a double, moved to third on a groundball hit to second, and scored off a sacrifice fly hit to right field by Brennan Metzger.
Gary Southshore put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on three hits and an error, extending their lead to 9-1 in Sioux City.
In the fifth inning, Explorers cut the lead to five with a three-run blast by X's second baseman Noah Perio. After five innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park, Railcats 9, Explorers 4.
Gary Southshore went on to score one more run in the game, giving them the 10-4 lead, which wound up being the final score of the contest. Final score, Railcats 10, Explorers 4 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
Gary Southshore's starting pitcher Richard Castillo (0-0) wound up with a no decision, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Right-hander Santiago Rodriguez (1-0) received the win, going 2.1 innings with no runs allowed.
Ryan Zimmemran (0-2) was charged with the loss for Sioux City. Zimmerman struggled in today's contest giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, six walks while striking out four in only three innings pitched.
The Sioux City Explorers and Gary Southshore Railcats will meet again tomorrow (May 25th), for their third and final game of the series, first pitch - 7:05.
