
X's rally late to down Shreveport

SIOUX CITY - The Sioux City Explorers rallied to defeat the Shreveport Sports 6-2 Tuesday night at Lewis and Clark Park. The win improves the X's season record to 34-33 (10-9 second half), and the loss drops the Sports to 34-33 (8-11 second half).
Both Sioux City starter Billy Keppinger and Shreveport starter Josh Neitz started off hot; only two combined hits were allowed through the first three innings. The Sports cracked the scoreboard first, scoring twice in the fourth inning. Al Corbeil singled to center and drove in Neb Brown and Coby Smith.
Sioux City would struggle until the eighth inning, when they plated six runs. Kevin Henry led off the inning with a double down the left field line, and scored on a Mike Richardson single to center. Chris Grossman hit a shot to right-center when two Sports collided, dropping the ball. Richardson would come around and collide with Shreveport catcher Tommy Bryant. The ball came loose and squirted into the Shreveport dugout, allowing JJ Burress to score.
Jorge Moreno then singled to center, and drove in Chris Grossman. Moreno stole second and would score on a Dan Meier fly out center. Alex Llanos doubled to left field, driving in Ryan Gripp. Kevin Henry would come up for his second at bat of the inning, but popped up to second for the third out. Sean Kramer came in to close out the ninth inning, striking out two before Enohel Polanco hit a long home run over the left field wall. Kramer finished off the game striking out Byrant.
The X's Billy Keppinger picked up seventh win of the year, throwing a strong eight innings. Keppinger allowed five hits, two runs, walked one and struck out four. The Sports Josh Neitz (2-4) took the loss, throwing 7.1 innings. Neitz allowed four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out one.
Jorge Moreno and Alex Llanos each went 2-4 and scoring once. Ryan Gripp, Kevin Henry and Mike Richardson each added a hit.
Sioux City will have Wednesday off, and hits the road for a seven game road trip. Thursday through Saturday, the X's will take on Lincoln at Haymarket Park, and Sunday through Wednesday against Saint Paul at Midway Stadium. Thursday game at Lincoln will start at 6:05 with the completion of the July 13th game, followed a seven-inning version of the regularly scheduled game; Friday and Saturday's games will be played at 7:05 p.m. Sunday's game at Saint Paul will start at 4:05 p.m., with the final three games at 7:05 p.m.
