Carlos Adolfo's solo home run broke up an eight-inning tie as the Cats defeated Coastal Bend 5-3 on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.

With the win, the Cats' record improves to 11-7 on the first half and brings them to within two games of the division lead.

The Cats built a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Shawn Williams and an RBI single by Matt Spencer.

The Aviators scored twice in the seventh inning, capped off by a Bryon Smith run-scoring single.

Jack Joffrion's leadoff homer in the eight knotted the game at three before Adolfo's blast gave the Cats the lead in the bottom of the inning. Ken Lup's RBI single made it 5-3.

Matt Harrington, who pitched two innings of shutout relief, earned the win to go to 3-1. JR Pickens suffered the loss after allowing two runs in the eighth. His record dropped to 8-4.

The Aviators left 13 runners on base during the game Tuesday night, including eight in the first four innings.

The finale of the four-game series is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. It will be a battle of lefthanders as Joel Kirsten takes the mound for the Cats and Pedro Flores toes the rubber for Coastal Bend.
