Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans are proud to announce that pitcher Rusty Begnaud is a featured story in the July 31 edition of Baseball America. Begnaud is currently rehabilitating at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta after being paralyzed from the chest down from a swimming pool accident on June 20.
The story talks about how Begnaud has an impact on the Pelicans both on and off the field and how the Pelicans and Pensacola community has rallied to support Rusty and his family. It also mentions how Rusty's father talked to the team and told them to "quit feeling sorry for yourselves and play the game Rusty would want you to play."
Pelicans Manager Kash Beauchamp is quoted in the article, "One thing about Rusty, he's an overachiever. He maximizes it on the field with a competitive drive. That's why Rusty is going to be OK. He's going to take that drive and fire into his rehab."
Fans interested in donating to the Rusty Begnaud Benefit Account can do so at any People's First Community Bank and out-of-towners can wire donations by calling 1-800-807-7227. The Rusty Begnaud Benefit Account is now over $20,000 from donations, cookouts, passing the bucket at games, purchasing special bracelets and other activities.
Fans can purchase individual game tickets in person at the Pelicans office located in Gulf Breeze at 913 Gulf Breeze Parkway Suite 8A or at www.pensacolapelicans.com. For group tickets, season tickets, birthday parties and corporate sponsorships, fans can call the Pelicans office at 934-8444.
