
X's Fall To Joplin In Game Two Of Series

The Sioux City Explorers fell to Joplin for the second straight night, losing 10-1 at Joe Becker Memorial Stadium. X's starter Ryan Zimmerman pitched well, allowing only three runs in six innings. Explorer lead-off man Matty Johnson, extended his hitting streak to seventeen games going 1 for 4 Saturday night.
Joplin plated two runs in the first two innings, Carlos Martinez knocked in a runner off an RBI single in the first inning. The Blasters scored again in the second off a fielders choice to give them two early runs.
Sioux City scored their first run in the second. Ryan Court led-off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and scored off a double hit by X's first baseman Ino Patron. Joplin answered in the fifth inning scoring their third of the game to make it 3-1 after five innings of play.
The Blasters went on to plate seven more in the bottom of the eighth, to go on to win 10-1 at Joe Becker Memorial Stadium. Explorers finished with one run on six hits and no errors, while Joplin had ten runs on twelve hits and five walks.
Ryan Zimmerman (7-2) was charged with only his second loss of the season, allowing three runs in six innings pitched. Zimmerman currently sits with a 2.05 ERA this season. Right-hander Billy Bullock and left-hander Anthony Ferrara pitched in relief for Sioux City, allowing seven runs between the two.
Joplin Blasters starting pitcher Nestor Molina (4-3) got the win. The right-hander had a great outing going eight full innings, with only one run allowed. Relief pitcher Jesus Colome (0-1) pitched the ninth for Joplin without giving up a run.
The Explorers did not have anyone finish with two hits or more on the night, but X's lead-off man Matty Johnson went 1 for 4, extending his hitting streak to seventeen games thus far. Explorer first baseman Ino Patron had the lone RBI for the X's, hitting an RBI double in the second inning.
