ThunderHeads Roll; 3-0 Win Makes 3 Straight

July 11, 2015 - American Association (AA)
Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

Heading for dryer ground on the road Friday night, the Amarillo ThunderHeads kept up their winning ways with perhaps their best pitching performance of the season to pull even on the year.

Leondy Perez picked up his first win of the season by throwing 5 1/3 innings of scoreless ball and the bullpen did the rest, as the ThunderHeads scored single runs in the second third and fourth innings for a 3-0 win over the Laredo Lemurs. It was Amarillo's third straight win following a scheduled four-game home series with Joplin that was cut to two games because of rain.

Perez scattered six hits while Leyson Septimo, Richard Barrett and Randy Hamrick held Laredo scoreless the rest of the way for the victory. Hamrick pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save of the season.

The ThunderHeads (23-23) got all the scoring they needed on Stefan Gartrell's solo home run in the second, his seventh of the season. Jordan Guida singled home Logan Vick in the third and Rene Leverett drove home Juan Martinez with a single in the fourth.
