Memphis Xplorers News Release
Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 have released their 2005 regular season schedule. The af2 announced division realignments earlier this month, with Memphis now being placed in the Midwest Division of the National Conference.
Memphis joins the new franchise, the Amarillo Dusters, in the Midwest Division, along with long time rival Bossier-Shreveport, as well as Oklahoma City, and Quad City.
Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto shared his thoughts on the new division alignment. "I will miss traveling to some of the locations that we did in previous seasons. I am excited to play against the new Amarillo team, and to have the opportunity to visit one of the original franchises in Quad City."
"I am not necessarily in favor of the new division that we are joining," stated Xplorers General Manager Nate Yoder. "It does allow us the opportunity to play in new cities, and give other teams the chance to come to Memphis."
New opponents for the Xplorers for the 2005 season include the Amarillo Dusters, Albany Conquest, Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, and the Central Valley Coyotes.
The Xplorers open the regular season with four of their first five games on the road. The regular season begins on Sunday, April 3, when the Xplorers visit the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings.
When asked about opening the season with four road games in the five weeks, Yoder stated, "last season we earned a trip to the playoffs through our great road record. I am confident that we are a strong road team, and with the talent that we have and will assemble this season, we should jump out to an early lead in the division."
The Xplorers host their first regular season game on Friday April 15, 2005 at 7:30pm at the DeSoto Civic Center. The following seven home games will all be played on Saturday nights, and begin at 7:00pm.
Memphis will have their first bye week, during the weekend of May 28th. The af2 has decided that all teams shall receive their second and final bye week during the July 4th holiday weekend.
