X’s Announce Spring Training Roster & Exhibition Schedule

SIOUX CITY, IA "" The Sioux City Explorers 2014 spring training roster is set and the X's will begin day one of spring training Saturday, May 3rd 2014 at Lewis & Clark Park with 23 players in camp (13 pitchers, 2 catchers, 5 infielders, and 3 outfielders). Of the 23 here for the start of spring training, there will be 5 returners from the 2013 squad and 18 new players. RHP Alex Caldera and RHP Kohei Tsukada plan to join the X's prior to the start of the 2014 regular season.

After two days of practice at Lewis and Clark Park, the X's will travel to Yankton, SD on Monday, May 5th to play the Sioux Falls Canaries in the first of four scheduled exhibition contests with the first pitch set for 6:05 PM at Riverside Park in Yankton, SD. The X's will then hold one more day of spring training at Lewis & Clark Park, before loading the bus Wednesday (May 7th) in route to Hinton, IA for exhibition game number two versus the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 6:30 PM contest at Hinton High School. On May 9th, the X's will head to Huron, SD for a 7:05 PM game versus the Canaries of Sioux Falls before heading to Haymarket Park on Tuesday, May 13th for their final exhibition tune-up versus the Lincoln Saltdogs with the first pitch set for 6:05 PM.

After one more day of spring training at Lewis & Clark Park (May 14th), the X's will open the 2014 regular season on the road in Sioux Falls, SD versus the Canaries on May 15th for the first two games of the opening series before returning to Lewis & Clark Park for the 2014 home opener on Saturday, May 17th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries in a 7:05 pm contest with magnet schedule giveaway night thanks to Wells Fargo Bank along with a post game FIREWORKS show to cap off the evening. The final game of the opening 4 game series will return to Sioux Falls on Sunday, May 18th.

In other team news, the X's have provided OF Eliezer Mesa his unconditional release.
