
Wingnuts to Open Camp on Saturday

WICHITA, KS (May 2, 2014) - The Wichita Wingnuts have their sights set on a third straight trip to the American Association's Championship Series in 2014. The team has a long journey to navigate and a trio of new foes in the South Division to battle along the way. The sound of gloves popping and bats cracking will return to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium this weekend as the Wingnuts officially begin training camp on Saturday morning.
Some familiar faces will be taking the field on a daily basis as Ryan Khoury, Jake Kahaulelio, David Amberson, and Brent Clevlen all return. The same applies to the mound where Jon Link, Matt Nevarez, Anthony Capra, Justin Klipp, Daniel Bennett, and Erik Lambe will wear a Wingnuts' uniform once again. Add to that a group of exciting new faces including former Grand Prairie closer Patrick Mincey who saved 24 games and finished with a 1.01 ERA last season, towering right-hander Michael Schlact, Emporia State standout Dillon Hazlett, ex-Royals prospect Carlo Testa, and Johnny Bench Award winner J.T. Wise to name a few. The Wingnuts are currently carrying 28 players on the roster and must reduce that number to 22 by May 13th.
The club opens its' seven-game exhibition slate with three straight home games. The Wingnuts will battle a pair of local colleges, Friends University and Emporia State University, on Sunday, May 4th and Monday, May 5th respectively, before welcoming the Kansas City T-Bones on Wednesday, May 7th. A trio of road games will follow as the club plays at River City (Frontier League) on Friday, May 9th, Gateway (Frontier League) on Saturday, May 10th, and matches up with Gary SouthShore at Lawrence Free State High School on Sunday May 11th. The pre-season schedule concludes with another game against Gary SouthShore at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Monday, May 12th. The contests on the 7th, 10th, and 12th will be broadcast live on 92.7 KWME, your radio home for Wingnuts' baseball. Tickets for all exhibition games are general admission and cost $7.
The seventh season of Wichita Wingnuts' baseball begins Thursday, May 15th against the Grand Prairie AirHogs at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
