Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL, three-time defending North Division Champions and National Hockey League affiliate to the Vancouver Canucks, announce a new two-year agreement for WZUU (92.5 FM) to be the exclusive radio home for K-Wings hockey.
For the first-time since 2002, fans will have to tune into a new station to listen to the K-Wings. Beginning this fall, the radio home of the K-Wings will be WZUU. The Mattawan, Michigan station has a frequency of 6,000 watts and covers the counties of Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Cass, Calhoun and Allegan.
Internet streaming for K-Wings hockey and "K-Wings Live" will also continue. Fans will be able to listen to the audio streaming for FREE by clicking on the team website or directly at the WZUU site .
With the agreement WZUU also has the rights to broadcast "K-Wings Live" radio show that will air once a month and the "Voice of the K-Wings", Mike Modugno will also have a three-minute feature during Scotty Bud's afternoon drive Monday-Friday.
"Personally, I have had a relationship with the K-Wings as a fan, radio or sponsor since 1974," said Bob Brink, president of Forum Communications. "The ability to rejoin forces with the K-Wings and expand their reach is something we are excited about."
In the early 90's, the K-Wings broadcast aired on another Forum Communication's station, WQXC (Cool 101).
Besides Forum Communications and the team joining forces, the K-Wings have hired Scotty Bud, as the team's new Public Address Announcer. Scotty Bud previous served in that same role from 2003-2009.
"This is an opportunity to grow our brand and to reach more of our fans throughout southwest Michigan," said Jim Burlew, general manager Stadium Management Company and the Kalamazoo Wings. "The stations reach along with its promotional backing made it the perfect fit."
Fans can tune into the 39th season of professional hockey in Kalamazoo this October, when Modugno begins his 11th season of hockey in Kalamazoo. Coverage of all of the K-Wings games start 20-minutes prior to face-off with the Kalsee Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
