Goalie Greenham Returns to Condorstown with New Addition Purslow

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today that G Scott Greenham (GREN-um) will return to Condorstown along with new F Rich Purslow. Greenham becomes the first goaltender and Purslow becomes the first new player to agree to terms with the team as the Condors training camp roster has swelled to 12. Both will be rookies this upcoming season.
Already announced this summer are returning forwards Tyler Helfrich, Robby Dee, Parker Stanfield, Jesse Gimblett, Chris Kushneriuk and defensemen Justin Pender, Scott Enders, Tyson Gimblett, Ryan Annesley, and Francis Meilleur.
Greenham arrived in Bakersfield late last season following the completion of his senior campaign at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and played three games with the Condors. With Bakersfield, the Addison, Ontario native went 2-1-0 with a 3.67 goals-against average (GAA) and a .912 save percentage (sv%) with at least 36 saves in each appearance. His time in Bakersfield was sandwiched around a call-up to the Houston Aeors of the American Hockey League (AHL) where he played in two games. Following the end of the Condors season, Greenham received yet another AHL look, this time with the Hershey Bears. He played two games with the Bears and was with the team for their playoff run.
Prior to coming to Bakersfield, the 25-year old played four seasons with the Nanooks where he finished as one of the top netminders in Alaska's history. In 115 games played, Greenham went 48-47-19 with a 2.24 GAA and .916 sv%. He is the Nanooks' career leader in wins (48), GAA (2.24), saves (2800), sv% (.916), and shutouts (11).
"The amount of returning players was really big in my decision to come back," Greenham said. "Seeing how hard the guys worked when I got there at the end of the season and how well they welcomed me was huge. I'm excited to come back to Bakersfield where the city really gets behind the team, find consistency in my game, and make it hard for coach not to play me."
"He was outstanding in the three games he played for us last season," Condors Head Coach Matt O'Dette said. "He's a bigger goaltender and faced a lot of shots here, but he was really cool under pressure which impressed me. He's a stand up guy who is well liked in the room and is a great acquisition for us."
Purslow becomes the first player on the training camp roster who did not suit up for the Condors in 2011-12. A native of Greenlawn, NY, the rookie played 146 games over four seasons for the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 2007-2011, recording 40 goals and 51 assists for 91 points. The 5'10", 176 lbs. left-handed shot saw his scoring totals increase in each of his four seasons with the Mavericks culminating in 33 points (13g-20a) in 39 games his senior year. He turned pro last season, playing six games with the Reading Royals (ECHL) and 20 games with Frisk Asker of the Norwegian GET-ligaen. Combined he scored 10 goals and added 13 assists for 23 points.
Before his collegiate career, the 26-year old registered a highly successful junior career in which he led the United States Hockey League (USHL) in scoring for the 2006-07 season. Playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers, Purslow played 60 games that season with 27 goals and 55 assists for 82 points. In 118 games over two seasons with the Bucs, he tallied 39 goals and 80 assists for 119 points.
"I really had a positive conversation with Coach O'Dette," said Purslow. "After talking with a few guys, it's a great opportunity for me. I'm a playmaker type and since I'm more of a smaller player, I try to think the game well and use my speed and vision."
"He's an offensively talented player who had great junior and college careers," said O'Dette. "For us, we're looking to catch lightning in a bottle again. We've had success in getting guys from the east who may not have had an opportunity and they've done well out here. I think he's going to be another one of those guys that excels out west."
