ONTARIO, CA - The Texas Legends (14-14) used the power play of dynamic duo Moses Wright and Carlik Jones to take down the Agua Caliente Clippers (16-10) 114-107.
The Clippers dominated the boards 53-42 and finished with 50 points in the paint to Texas' 38. Both teams finished with 41 made baskets and 11 three-pointers, but Texas got their finish at the free throw line.
After four lead changes early in the first, Texas took the lead they would ultimately hold through the final. The first quarter stayed close, but James Banks grabbed the last six points to give the Legends a 26-18 lead at the buzzer. The eight turned to 14 quickly in the second before a 20-6 run by ACC tied it up. Another short run late gave Texas a 7-point edge at the half.
The Legends took their largest lead of the night (+21) late in the third and held it into the fourth, but the Clippers quickly set the tone for a comeback quarter with a long ball 14 seconds in. The home team nearly erased the 21-point gap, pulling within four with 24 seconds to play, but Carlik Jones finished 4-of-4 from the line in those final seconds to close it out for the visitors.
Wright finished with 36 points on 14-of-23 and 4-of-7 outside. The former Clipper also tagged on 11 boards and 3 blocks to lead all three categories for Texas. Carlik Jones also had a 30-point night while grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 9 assists. Justin Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Legends with 22 points, 8 rebounds.
The Clippers had six players finish in double figures, three with 18, led by Shevon Thompson who added 12 rebounds, 2 blocks. Brandon Boston Jr. and Nate Darling matched the 18 and combined for 15 rebounds. Emmitt Williams joined Darling off the bench for 16 points, 8 rebounds.
Texas heads to South Bay next for a two-game series against the Lakers beginning Sunday at 7pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live on www.TexLegends.com.
