Rapid City Rush News Release

(Bloomington, IL) - On Saturday night, Rapid City Rush team captain Scott Wray poured in two goals and four total points to lead the Rush in a 5-1 win over the Bloomington Blaze at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Fellow veterans Damian Surma, Jesse Schultz and Jarret Konkle had strong games while rookie Justin Faryna and defenseman Michael Couch potted their first goals of the season. The Rush are back in action on Wednesday, December 26th against the rival Denver Cutthroats at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are available online at www.gotmine.com.

The Rush have had their struggles in the first period this year, but for just the third time this season, Rapid City picked up two goals in the opening frame. The first came from Scott Wray who slammed home a perfectly placed back-door saucer pass from Jesse Schultz at 5:16. Near the midway point, the Rush capitalized on their first powerplay of the game when Damian Surma's shot from the right circle was deflected in by Jarrett Konkle for his team-leading thirteenth goal of the season.

The Rush wouldn't let up, potting two goals in the opening 2:48 of the second frame. The first came at 1:26 from rookie Justin Faryna who buried a rebound from the top of the crease for his first goal in a Rush uniform. Just 1:22 later, defenseman Michael Couch sent a wrist shot from the blueline that found the twine for his first of the season, making it 4-0.

Midway through the third, Jesse Dudas ended Tim Boron's shutout bid, snapping a shot from the top of the right circle, cutting the lead to three. However, three minutes later, Wray blasted a slapshot from the top of the right circle off the crossbar and in for his ninth goal of the season and fourth point of the night.

Rapid City's veterans led the way as Damian Surma and Jesse Schultz collected two assists each along with goals from Wray (2), Konkle and Couch.

Tim Boron made 31 saves on 32 shots, improving his record to 9-5-1.
