Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Boise, Idaho - Wranglers' goaltender Travis Fullerton made 36 saves, Chad Nehring scored twice and Las Vegas came from behind to take down the Idaho Steelheads 5-3 on Wednesday night. The game was Las Vegas' second straight win, both against Idaho, and the third of five meetings in a row between the two foes.

The Wranglers would draw first blood as the captain, Geoff Paukovich (6), gave Las Vegas a 1-0 lead 13:19 into the first period. The goal, which was Paukovich's third point in his last four games (2g, 1a), was assisted by Adam Hughesman (16) and Robbie Smith (8). Five minutes later the Steelheads would answer back, though, as Taylor Vause tallied his seventh of the year, assisted by Brock Montgomery, tying the game at 1-1. John Armstrong (11) would put the Wranglers back on top shortly after, burying a highlight-reel goal off a feed from Nehring (10) to give Las Vegas a 2-1 lead with just 31 seconds to go in the frame.

The second period would see the Steelheads score twice, once off the stick of William Rapuzzi (14) and once from Vause (8), his second of the night. Rapuzzi's score came on the power-play, just the second man-advantage goal Las Vegas has surrendered in their last nine games, and was assisted by Mitch Wahl (33) and Russ Sinkewich (17). With the game tied 2-2, Vause, who arrived just this morning from the American Hockey League's Texas Stars, scored off a feed from Rob Linsmayer (10) to put Idaho on top 3-2 with just 4:33 to go in the second.

The third period, however, would be all Las Vegas, as just 2:29 into the frame Nehring (13) would even the score with his second point of the night, assisted by Greg Coburn (7). Then, with the score knotted 3-3, Smith scored his seventh of the year and fifth in the last seven games to put Las Vegas ahead with just 58 seconds to go. The goal, which came on the power-play, was assisted by Charlie Cook (15) and Adam Hughesman (17), his second of the night. Nehring (14) would complete his three point night by firing his second of the game into the empty net with 23 seconds to go, giving Las Vegas an ultimate and final 5-3 lead.

The Wranglers and Steelheads will face off twice more on Friday, Mar. 7 and Saturday, Mar. 8 to finish up a streak of five straight between the two. Following the trip to Idaho, the Wranglers will then continue their six-game road swing with hikes to Ontario on Friday, Mar. 14, Stockton on Sunday, Mar. 16 and Bakersfield on Tuesday, Mar. 18, before returning back to Las Vegas on Thursday, Mar. 20 to take on the Stockton Thunder.
