Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (27-17-6-4) rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the second period but could not overcome the Ontario Reign (35-16-2-3) as they fell 4-3 on Wednesday evening at the Budweiser Events Center.
Four minutes and ten seconds into the first frame Reign defenseman Matt Register gave Ontario the early 1-0 lead with a shot that deflected off of Eagles netminder Marc Cheverie's leg pad and found the back of the net. A little over two minutes later Register netted his second goal of the night from the same spot on the ice as his previous tally to put the Reign up 2-0. Eagles defenseman Marc Nemec answered, just :23 later with a goal from just inside the blue line to cut Ontario's lead, 2-1. Ontario defenseman Cody Sol capitalized on the first power play of the evening to pump the Reign's lead, 3-1, 8:54 into the first.
Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer stuffed home a rebound off of a shot from linemate Kyle Ostrow to put another divot into Ontario's lead, 3-2, 13:58 into the second period. Just over two minutes later Eagles forward Riley Nelson beat Reign goalie Jussi Olkinuora on a shorthanded breakaway to tie the game at 3-3.
Ontario took the 4-3 lead, 7:52 into the third stanza as forward Chris Crane scored on a shot from the center of the right face-off circle. Cheverie made 20 saves on 24 shots while Olkinuora shut down 20 of Colorado's 23 shots to hold on for the 4-3 Reign victory.
The same two teams will meet up again on Friday at the Budweiser Events Center.
