Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced today that they have agreed to terms with defensemen Sean Hurley and John Schwarz for the 2009-10 season. The Wranglers also announced that they have agreed to terms with forward Jeff Hazelwood.
Hurley, 26, will be entering his second full professional season in 2009-10. The 6-3, 211-pound defenseman skated in 46 games last season for the Bakersfield Condors, recording nine points. Prior to his rookie year, the Rutland, VT native spent four years at Brown University, where he posted 79 points over his 126-game Ivy-League career. During the 2008-09 season, Hurley suited up for a combined seven AHL games with the Worcester Sharks and Norfolk Admirals.
"Sean was a player sought after heavily following a great collegiate career," said Wranglers General Manager / Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "I'm excited to work with him to get him to that elite level. He'll be a very responsible, offensive defenseman for us."
Schwarz, 25, will be entering his first professional season after finishing four years at Michigan Tech. The 6-3, 210-pound Schwarz tallied 13 points and 217 penalty minutes over 126 games while anchoring the Huskies blue line from 2005-06 to 2008-09. The Calgary native appeared in four games for the Wranglers last season on an Amateur Tryout agreement, picking up one assist and eight penalty minutes.
Joining Hurley and Schwarz for the Wranglers, is 24-year-old rookie forward Jeff Hazelwood. Hazelwood is a Dublin, CA native, who will be entering the professional ranks after spending the past two years at Curry College. Hazelwood led Curry in his senior year with 25 goals, and 23 assists in 27 games. In 53 games over his Junior and Senior years, Hazelwood posted 43 goals and 93 points. Last season, Hazelwood was named the ECAC Northeast "Player of the Year."
