Chiefs Re-Sign Robinson

Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have re-signed left wing Matt Robinson for the 2009-10 season.

"The Chiefs had very high expectations of Matt coming into last season. Unfortunately his season was cut short due to injury. However, Matt has been working hard this offseason and should be ready to make a significant contribution from day one," said Vice President and General Manager Bill Bredin.

Robinson was originally acquired by the Chiefs in September 2008 from Alaska as part of a trade that sent All-Star forward Alex Imbeault to the Aces. Robinson's 2008-09 season got off to a slow start with only one assist in his first six games, but as the calendar changed to November so did the 24-year-olds fortunes. Over a five-game stretch from Nov. 2 to Nov. 14 Robinson tallied three goals and five assists including a season-high three point (2G, 1A) effort in a 7-4 win over Cincinnati on November 12. A knee injury, however, ended the 6-1 forward's season after Nov. 16.

A native of South Surrey, British Columbia, Robinson spent his first two seasons with the Alaska Aces. He produced 71 points (40G, 31A) in the Great White North in 117 regular season games. He also proved to be a steady producer in the postseason with six points (3G, 3A) in 23 Kelly Cup Playoff games. Prior to turning pro, Robinson skated in the WHL for two seasons between the Vancouver Giants and Regina Pats.
