Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced the signing of defenseman Philippe Paquet (PAH - ket) today. Paquet spent the last four seasons at Clarkson University.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman served as co-captain for the Golden Knights in his senior season at Clarkson. Hampered by injuries in his last two years of college hockey, Paquet managed to post his best numbers. In 26 games, the Quebec City, Quebec native tallied one marker and 11 helpers for 12 points with 62 penalty minutes in his final season at Clarkson. His physical style of play was evident averaging 83 penalty minutes over his four-year collegiate career.

Coach Malcolm Cameron says Paquet brings size and strength to the Everblades blueline, "Phil is a big, strong kid that plays very aggressively. He really uses his size to his advantage. I am looking forward to working with him. He is a great addition to our team."

The 22-year-old rookie skated in a total of 127 games for Clarkson, tallying seven goals, 23 assists for 30 points and 332 penalty minutes. He was drafted in the 7th round (229th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The newest Everblade said coach Cameron's reputation played a role in his decision, "In working with my agent, I heard about coach Cameron, that he was a good coach with a good reputation, and that Florida would be a great place to play."

Paquet will begin the season in the Atlanta Thrashers rookie camp beginning in early September. Following that, he will then attend the Lake Erie Monsters training camp of the American Hockey League.
