Worcester Sharks Sign Defenseman Justin Kurtz to PTO

WORCESTER - The Worcester Sharks announced today they have signed defenseman Justin Kurtz to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO).

Kurtz, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has spent the last three seasons playing professional hockey in Europe. Kurtz scored 47 points (13+34=47) last season for Wolfsburg in Germany.

The 29-year-old has played in 127 American Hockey League games for the Saint John Flames and Manitoba Moose. In that time, the 6-foot, 188-pound veteran tallied 78 points (21+57=78) and 135 penalty minutes.

In the 2001-02 season, Kurtz had a brief stint in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks. In 23 games played, he compiled three goals and five assists for eight points.

The Sharks will next take on the Providence Bruins on Friday night in Providence at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for a 7:05 p.m. start time.

Worcester will then return home on Saturday night when they play host to the Lowell Devils at the DCU Center. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. and the first 3,000 fans will receive a Sharks poster schedule.

Following every Saturday home game, two Sharks players will be in the DCU Center Box Office Lobby for an autograph session.
