Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- The Rox and Tornadoes combined to score just a pair of runs over seven and a half, but the bottom of the eighth was Worcester's inning. Four runs in the eighth was plenty for the boys in black to topple Brockton and take the series, 5-1.
John Kelly, in his first start off the DL, was on a strict four-inning schedule and it was unfortunate for the Rox he couldn't have gone longer. The veteran righty efficiently navigated through his twelve outs allowing just the one run. Zack Zuercher (7-4) went into the eighth for the first time this season, and minus a solo mistake to Keith Brachold (his ninth homerun), he scattered seven hits to pick up the win.
Brad Hertzler (2-3) left two on with one out in the eighth after pitching three and a third, handing the ball to Keith Noe. Noe got Alex Pena to sky to center for out number two then walked Vinny Pennell to load the bases. Mike MacMillan, who had been hitless to this point in the game, lashed a single into right center to plate the go ahead and eventual winning runs. Jeff LaHair followed suit with his second hit of the afternoon to put the final nail in the coffin. A scoreless ninth in a non-save situation from Anthony Sullivan concluded the contest.
Looking to avenge the last series against the SkyHawks, when Worcester lost two of three, Chris Farley (4-3) will get the pill for the Tornadoes at 7:05 Monday night. Bring old clothes to the ballpark to donate to the Salvation Army, and fans will receive half price tickets.
