Major Leagues Coming to Skylands Park
2003 National League Cy Young Award winner Eric Gagne is scheduled to pitch the August 31st game here at Skylands Park when the Skyhawks take on the Capitales of Quebec. Gagne got his start in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in the mid 1990's. Gagne started taking over as a relief pitcher in the 2002 season, leading the league in saves with 52 converted opportunities.
In 2003, Gagne tied a then National League record held by John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves with 55 saves, making Gagne the fastest pitcher to ever reach 100 saves. For his performance in 2003 Gagne was awarded the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year award and the National League Cy Young award. Between August 26, 2002 and July 5, 2004, he converted 84 consecutive save chances, a major league record. Prior to the 2007 season, Gagné had converted 161 saves out of 168 save opportunities for a conversion rate of 96.6%, the highest in Major League Baseball history for a pitcher with at least 100 saves.
After completion of a successful Tommy John surgery, Gagne signed with the Capitales to perfect his form in an attempt to make his return to the majors. Come out and join the Skyhawks in what promises to be on of the most exciting games of the year. The 31st is also Ladies Night and will feature vendors and makeovers for lucky fans that evening compliments of Ultima Hair Designers and Day Spa.
On Wednesday, September 2nd Former New York Yankee and Hall of Famer Yogi Berra will be at Skylands Park signing autographs. On the day of the game, vouchers for the autograph session will be handed out beginning at 3:30 p.m. Autographs will begin at 5:00 p.m and are strictly limited to the first 300 fans in line (with a ticket to that nights game) beginning at 3:30 p.m. For tickets or more information visit our website at www.sussexskyhawks.com or call our box office at 973-300-1000x21.
