Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Abraham Nunez and Chris Colabello hit back-to-back homers for Worcester in the second and Colabello added another in a 10-3 victory over the Quebec Capitales on Sunday afternoon.Shawn Gilblair earned the win in seven effective innings, limiting Quebec to three runs on three hits, four walks and eight strikeouts.

The Tornadoes scored a pair of runs in the first on two RBI singles. Mark Minicozzi plated Alex Nunez (who led the inning off with a double and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored on the day), while Nick Salotti's base hit scored Chris Colabello, who had walked.

In the second, Worcester got back-to-back RBI hits again, but each one was of the four-base variety. Abraham Nunez hit a three-run shot, and Chris Colabello followed with a solo blow to make it 6-0 Tornadoes. Nunez ended the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Colabello was 2-for-4 with a walk, two dingers, five RBI and three runs scored.

Quebec broke the shutout in the fourth with a pair of walks to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Goefrey Tomlinson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Sebastien Boucher. The next inning, Rene Leveret hit a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to three runs (6-3). Leveret's hit was the first for the Capitales all game.

The three-run lead didn't stay at the same mark for very long. Chris Colabello hit a three-run homer in the bottom half of the fifth to make it 9-3 Worcester. Colabello is the first Tornadoes player to hit two homeruns in a game this season, and their three homeruns as a team is also a 2011 high.

Matt McDonald came on for his 2011 debut the same day he officially signed with the club, throwing two scoreless innings and allowing three baserunners: one walk and two hits.

The Tornadoes hit the road on Monday morning destined for Newark. The first game of the four-game set will be 7:05pm on Monday. The four games against the Bears will be the final ones in a 10-game stretch in which the Tornadoes face a top-two team in the CanAm League.
