
Pittfield Wins Fifth In A Row

PITTSFIELD, MA - David Qualben pitched eight shutout innings and the Pittsfield Colonials backed him up with a five-run seventh inning en route to an 8-0 win over the New York Federals.
Already leading 3-0, Danny Bomback got things started for Pittsfield in the seventh with a solo homer to make it 4-0. Following the homerun, a walk by Angel Molina and singles by Billy Mottram and Johnny Welch loaded the bases. Peter Fatse lined a single of his own to right to score Molina to make it 5-0. Scott Knazek stepped to the plate and delivered a hit of his own to left scoring Mottram and Welch to make it 7-0. A sac fly from Rafael Cabreja rounded out the scoring.
The Colonials tallied the first runs of the game in the second inning on a sac fly by Fatse and an RBI single to make it 2-0. The lead was extended to 3-0 in the third when Mottram singled home Bomback to led off the inning with a double.
The runs were plenty enough for Qualben (2-1) who tossed eight brilliant innings, allowing six hits while striking out five. Luis Pardo (0-1) took the loss for New York.
Offensively Fatse, Kanzek and Cabreja drove in two runs each.
The Colonials now take on the Quebec Capitales for four games at Wahconah Park. Chad Paronto (1-3, 5.25) will get the ball for Pittsfield. Monday is Bernie Carbo night. The former Red Sox outfielder will sign autographs at the game. The pregame show on 89.7 WTBR will begin at 6:40 outside of a 7 p.m. first pitch.
