Wausau Woodchucks News Release

WAUSAU - Coming off of a five game slide, the Wisconsin Woodchucks took the field at Home against the Lakeshore Chinooks with hopes to finally snap the losing streak. In the end the Woodchucks followed through, and took the "W" with a 4-0 shutout of the Lakeshore Chinooks

The Woodchucks started, and grabbed the early lead with an error by Lakeshores shortstop, German Reyes, scoring catcher Levi Meyer for the 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The "˜Chucks tacked another run on the board when Brooks Braga reached 1st on an infield single. However, the Chinooks misplayed, didn't cover home plate, and allowed Brandon Cogswell to score from second base.

The fifth inning didn't end there. Brad McKewon singled to shallow centerfield, scoring Brooks Braga on second for another run. The "˜Chucks scored two runs on two hits, adding to their score, making it a 3-0 game after five innings.

Defensively Jack Fischer, the "˜Chucks ace was dealing. Fischer carved out ten batters, with one walk, and zero earned runs through seven innings in Monday's outing. Fischer would get the win, coming out after seven innings pitched.

The Woodchucks continued swinging, putting yet another run on the board in the sixth inning, when Gage Green singled to center scoring Brendon Hayden to make it a 4-0 game.

The Woodchucks would hold that lead going into the top of the ninth inning with Max Ising on the mound to close things out. After a 5-3 double play, Ising did just that, and got Chinooks first basemen, Mat Harjung, to ground out to end the game in regulation.

The Woodchucks will play Tuesday evening at 6:35 again, against the Lakeshore Chinooks for another round of great Northwood league action.
