Waterloo Starts Hot, Coasts over Beetles in Series Finale

Alexandria Beetles News Release

Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks scored two runs in the first and four in the second off of Alexandria starter Michael Reed and cruised to a 10-4 victory over the Beetles in the finale of a five game series in Iowa.

With the win, Waterloo (14-6) won the series three games to two after Alexandria (7-12) had leveled the series on Sunday.

Reed settled down after the first two frames and lasted into the fifth but the Alexandria offense could never come up with a big hit until the game was out of reach. The Beetles stranded at least one runner in every inning and left 14 on for the game.

Kevin Kaczmarski and Sean Borman each delivered two-out RBI hits for Waterloo in the first before the Bucks broke it open in the second, batting around and plating four on five hits.

Alexandria looked dangerous in the third after a leadoff triple by Will Fulmer, to extend his season-opening on-base streak to 17 games, and an RBI single by Tanner Vavra, but after a walk put runners on first and second with still no one out, a double play chopper and strikeout quickly ended the threat.

The game remained 6-1 until the seventh when Waterloo tacked on four more with four consecutive hits by the top four hitters in the lineup making the score 10-1. The top five Bucks in the batting order each had multiple hits.

The Beetles put a three spot on the scoreboard ninth off reliever Brett Andrzejewski including a two-run homerun by Josh Guerra, his first of the season, but the submariner settled down to preserve the Buck win.

Alexandria, 5-5 on their 11 game roadtrip, returns to the field in Rochester at 7:05 CDT Tuesday before a late-night return home.
