Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers suffered through an 11-6 defeat at the hands of the Mankato MoonDogs on Monday night, June 18th.
The Honkers let defensive miscues get the best of them again as they committed five errors in the game to give them a total of forty for the season.
After tying the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Tim Zufall (Oral Roberts) two-run homerun to right-center field, newly acquired reliever Jordan Milbrath (Augustana) handed the lead right back to the MoonDogs by giving up four runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 9-5.
Milbrath was handed the loss after 2.2 innings with seven earned runs allowed on ten Mankato hits. Milbrath is now 0-1 on the season.
Honkers starting pitcher Jared Miller pitched 4.0 innings and gave up two runs, both unearned for his first appearance of the 2012 Northwoods League season. Miller was given a no-decision for his performance.
The Honkers were able to collect ten hits in the game after a three-hit performance last night in Mankato, but their three long balls and six total runs would not be productive enough for a win.
Rochester leadoff hitter Justin Parr (Illinois) had a good night at the plate, finishing 3 for 5. Designated hitter Justin Podratz (Hawaii) and first baseman Reid Roper (Illinois) each had two hits and a home run in the defeat.
Earning the victory for the MoonDogs was starter Adam Mott. Mott is now 1-0.
Mankato tallied seventeen hits as a team and two home runs from the bats of Trey Nielsen (Utah) and Dan Sheppard (Iowa).
The Honkers (6-14) will begin a three-game series with the Alexandria Beetles (7-11) tomorrow, June 19th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Mayo Field in Rochester. The final two games of the series will be played in Alexandria.
Starting tomorrow for the Honkers will be right hander Chris Noble (Pikeville). Noble is 0-3 with an 8.53 ERA in three outings. On the hill for the Beetles will be righty Steve Weber (Eastern Michigan) who is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.
