Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU, WI - After a double-digit win last night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, the Wisconsin Woodchucks were unable to complete a two-game sweep. The Rafters beat the Woodchucks by a final score of 6-4.
The Woodchucks scored first in the second inning when shortstop Kyle Simmons broke out of a slump with an RBI double that landed in left center and drove two men in. Santino Miozzi and Alec Arnone scored on the play. This gave the Woodchucks an early 2-0 lead.
The Woodchucks lost that lead in the sixth inning after Wisconsin Rapids scored five runs. Starting pitcher Jared Pettitte allowed two runs on one hit. He walked six and struck out three. Jose Varela also pitched in the sixth inning. He allowed three runs on three hits. Angel Tiburcio then came on in relief and pitched through the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits.
Santino Miozzi lowered the Woodchucks deficit with an RBI single that drove in Kenny Rodriguez in the bottom of the sixth inning. The score was then 5-3 with Wisconsin Rapids leading until the Rafters added to that lead with an RBI single to right field in the top of the seventh inning. This gave the Rafters a 6-3 lead.
The Woodchucks continued to fight back with an RBI single from Adam Frank in the seventh inning. He drove in Alec Arnone to make the score 6-4 with the Rafters leading. The Woodchucks could not add on any more runs, however. This resulted in a final score of 6-4.
