Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - A night after the Pit Spitters scored 12 runs to down the Bombers, the Traverse City outfit outdid themselves Friday, scoring 14 runs on 12 hits to secure a two-game sweep of Battle Creek. The final score was 14-4.
For the second time in two nights, the Pit Spitters rebounded from an early 3-0 hole to claim victory. This time, they fell behind due to a two out, two-run homer off the bat of left fielder John Malcom. The Bombers would go on to add another run in the third, before yielding 14 consecutive runs to the hosts.
After being silenced for the first three innings by Bombers starter Amani Edwards, the Pit Spitters broke through in the fourth, scoring twice, in the fifth, scoring three times, and in a nine-run bottom of the seventh. In the inning, the Pit Spitters sent 12 men to the plate, knocking six hits.
For the second consecutive night, each Pit Spitters starter recorded at least one hit. Leading the attack was Michael Slaten (JR Benedictine,) who mashed two triples and drove in five. He was joined in the attack by Jake Wilson (JR Bowling Green,) who tallied two hits and three RBI's. Aaron Shea (SR Toccoa Falls) recorded the victory, moving his record to 2-0 on the year.
