Wausau Woodchucks News Release

GREEN BAY-June 24, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks and Green Bay Bullfrogs were locked in a pitcher's duel for the entire night, but the Bullfrogs came out on top, 3-1.

The Bullfrogs got the scoring started in the first inning on a two-run homer by Mitch Haniger that scored Jacob May.

After that, Woodchuck starter Jordan Luvisi (0-3) settled down and did a great job on the mound. Luvisi pitched six solid innings, allowing only one run after the two-run homer. He allowed eight hits, three earned runs, and struck out seven batters.

The Woodchucks scored an unearned run in the eighth off of Bullfrog reliever John Collella on an RBI-single by Robbie De La Cruz to make the score 3-1, but that's how the game would end, as the Woodchucks lost game two of the series.

Bullfrog starter Tim Giel (3-1) pitched seven outstanding innings as he picked up the win, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out four. Of the 21 outs recorded by Giel, 16 were groundouts as he dominated the Woodchucks hitters throughout the evening.

Woodchucks batter Carlos Escobar, Jr., got a hit in the ninth off of Collella to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, as he has had a hit in every game he has played this season.

The Woodchucks fell to 9-12 on the season, as the Bullfrogs improved to 11-11. The two teams will face off again tomorrow night in Green Bay for the rubber game of a three-game series before an off day for the Woodchucks on Sunday.
