Green Bay Rockers News Release
Frogville, WI - The Green Bay Bullfrogs snapped a three game losing streak on Friday night behind Tim Giel's seven shutout innings. Mitch Haniger hit a two-run homer in the 3-1 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks. John Colella earned the two inning save, his fifth of the year which leads the Northwoods League.
The 'Frogs jumped on the board first with a two run shot off the bat of Mitch Haniger with one out in the first. Green Bay would score again in the fourth inning on aggressive base running. Billy Moon stole second after a lead-off single. With one out, Dan Gerow hit a slow ground ball to the second baseman Cody Regis who charged in and missed the bare-handed attempt at the ball. When the ball got past him, Moon never slowed down around third base and ended up coming in to score to make it 3-0.
Tim Giel cruised the entire evening as he gave up just three hits in his seven inning, shutout performance. Giel's fastball was placed where ever he wanted it as he allowed just one base runner to reach second base. Giel did not record a fly ball out in the outfield as he earned his third win of the year.
John Colella earned the two inning save. It is the third time that he has earned a six-out save. It is his fifth save of the year which leads the Northwoods League. Colella did give up one unearned run when he committed a throwing error. It is the second run Colella has allowed, both are unearned and against the Woodchucks.
The win improves the 'Frogs record to 12-10 on the year heading into the final game of the three-game series with the 'Chucks. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:05 pm with Austin Blaski on the mound for Green Bay and AJ Carmen throwing for the Woodchucks.
