Wausau Woodchucks News Release
GREEN BAY- The Wisconsin Woodchucks could not complete a comeback after a four-run first by the Green Bay Bullfrogs put the Woodchucks in the hole early, as they fell to the Bullfrogs, 8-3.
Woodchuck starter AJ Carman was chased in the first inning after he recorded two outs, walked four batters, and gave up three hits as the Bullfrogs took a 4-0 lead. Carman left the game after going two-thirds of an inning, allowing four runs on three hits after he walked four batters.
The Woodchucks did not get a runner on base until the fourth inning, when Danny Susdorf led off the inning with a double. Susdorf came around to score on an RBI-groundout by Seth Batty to cut the Bullfrog lead to 4-1.
The Woodchucks reduced the lead to only one run in the next inning as they scored two. The first four batters for the âChucks reached, and runs scored on a single by Seth Batty and a deep sacrifice fly by Mike Gerber to make the score, 4-3. Bullfrog starter Austin Blaski left the game after facing the first four batters, ending his night at four innings, five hits, and three runs, only two of which were earned.
The Bullfrogs made the lead insurmountable in the eighth, though, when a couple of runs came across. Justin Burns came on in relief of Garret Yrigoyen, and the Bullfrogs capitalized. They scored two runs on a single by Ty Filliben, one on a single by Jacob May, and another on an error by Burns. Two of the runs were charged to Yrigoyen, who threw an outstanding ball-game for the âChucks. He came on in relief of Carman in the first as he went six and two-thirds innings, allowing only those two runs on four hits.
Carman (0-3) picked up the loss for the Woodchucks, while Adam Cimber picked up the win for the Bullfrogs. He pitched three and two-third innings while only allowing two Woodchuck hits.
The Woodchucks have an off-day tomorrow before returning to Athletic Park on Monday to take on the Madison Mallards at 6:35.
