Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks used six straight hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally against the Madison Mallards, 6-2.
Facing a 2-1 deficit, time looked to be running out for the Woodchucks (16-9, 34-25) coming into the bottom of the eighth inning. The meat of the Woodchucks' order got the rally going as Brendon Hayden, Paul DeJong, and Jake Scudder all reached base with hits. It was Scudder's double that tied the game up at two driving home Hayden on the play. Zach Arnold followed Scudder with a double of his own, but this time it brought home two runs on the play. The Woodchucks weren't done yet as Nate Mondou brought home Arnold with a single. The Woodchucks put up five runs on six hits giving them a 6-2 lead.
The Woodchucks were held in check for most of the night as the only run scored was in the bottom of the first inning when Jake Scudder hit a single scoring Brendon Hayden on the play.
The Mallards (12-14, 30-29) overtook the Woodchucks when they scored a run in both the third and fourth inning.
Pat Kenney came on in the ninth inning and put the Mallards down in order to finish the game out for the Woodchucks.
The Woodchucks and Mallards will finish their two-game series tomorrow night at Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
