Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors won a close one at home against the Willmar Stingers by a final of 7-6 in a game that lasted twelve innings.

Willmar got on the board early as Sean Beesley led off with a double and would come in to score the first run after a pair of groundouts.

In the fourth, Willmar added two more on a two RBI single by Max Ayoub to take a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of inning number four.

The Anchors would wait to strike until the sixth inning when Aaron Gretz would deliver a clutch two-out single to drive in the Anchors first run of the game. Unfortunately for Alexandria, the Stingers would get that run back in the top of the seventh on a sac fly from Hutton Moyer.

In the Eight, the Stinger's Nick Rivera led off with a solo home run; his 13th of the season, would make it 5-1 Willmar.

The Anchors would have big plans for the eighth inning, as they would tie it all up with four runs. Another two out RBI single from Aaron Gretz knocked in one. Two pitches later, Nehwon Norkeh shocked one to center field with a three run home run to tie the game.

The game would then be scoreless until the top of the twelfth. Jack Ross would drive in the go ahead run on a sac fly and leave the Anchors down by one with three outs left. The Anchors would need only two outs to complete an exciting comeback. Alexandria took advantage of some control issues from Willmar's closer Tyler Cohen, and would win the game after Aaron Gretz would take a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded to win the game.

Notes: The Blue Anchors next game will be Tuesday July 29th on the road against the Willmar Stingers and will take place at 7:00PM. The game can be seen.
