Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, MI. - A two-run rally in the eighth inning by the Green Bay Bullfrogs was too little too late, as the Bullfrogs fell to the Battle Creek Bombers on Monday night by a score of 3-2.
Three runs on four hits in the first inning put Battle Creek on the board early by a score of 3-0. Those three runs were all Battle Creek needed as ex-Bullfrog Luke Heller (Cornerstone) pitched a gem in his first start as a Bomber. Heller surrendered just four hits and two runs over seven and one-third innings and picked up the win for Battle Creek.
Matthew Rhodes (Hardin Simmons) threw the final five outs for the Bombers to pick up the five-out save.
Henri Lartigue (Ole Miss) put the Bombers on the board first with an RBI single scoring Spencer Thorton (San Diego State). Lartigue later came around to score for the third run of the inning on a Cody Kuzniczci (Northern Kentucky) RBI single. Lartigue finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.
Corey Fischer (Madison College) took the loss for the Bullfrogs but settled in after the first inning to pitch the whole game. Fischer retired the last 13 batters he faced, going all the way back to the fourth inning. The Kansas State commit gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out four.
A Ryan Howell (Chabot College) two RBI single in the eighth were all the runs the Bullfrogs could muster up against Heller and the Bombers. Howell finished the game 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to eight games and his RBI streak to seven. Howell now has 44 RBIs on the season, which is good for fourth in the South Division.
Big League Dream Showcase selections Matt Beaty (Belmont) and Franco Guardascione (Palm Beach State) also had hits for the Bullfrogs in the loss.
On Tuesday the Bullfrogs will face the Bombers for the last time this season. Scheduled to pitch for the Bullfrogs is starter Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (CST) from C.O. Brown Stadium.
