Six Bullfrogs Selected to Big League Dreams Showcase

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs are pleased to announce that six Bullfrogs have been selected to play in the Second Annual Northwoods League Big League Dreams Showcase on Tuesday, August 5th in Madison, Wisconsin. The Big League Dreams Showcase is a double-header between NWL players, with teams composed of the Top 100 NWL prospects, voted on by Major League Baseball Scouts.

Matt Beaty, Ryan Koziol, Ivan Vieitez, Garrett Harrison, Dan Becks, and Franco Guardascione will all represent the Green Bay Bullfrogs at this year's Big League Dreams Showcase in Madison.

Matt Beaty, from Belmont University, led the Bruins this past spring in batting average (.352) and on-base percentage (.478). Beaty has continued his strong offensive production with the Bullfrogs in the 2014 season with a .299 batting average and a team-high .418 on-base percentage. On the season, Beaty has recorded fifty hits, six doubles, two home runs, one triple and 13 RBI in 47 games. He has drawn 26 walks and has eight stolen bases for the Bullfrogs as well.

Ryan Koziol, from Gulf Coast State College, is the Bullfrogs second selection for the BLD Showcase. Koziol, who will transfer to Illinois State next season, currently holds the highest batting average on the Bullfrogs with a .303 mark. His 31 walks on the season are also a team-high. The six-foot-three junior has also scored 35 runs with nine doubles, one triple, one home run and has 28 RBI this year for Green Bay. Koziol has been versatile in the field as well, starting games at first and third base, as well as fourteen games in the outfield.

From Lenoir-Rhyne University, Ivan Vieitez has thrived as a two-way player for the Bullfrogs this season. At the plate, the six-foot-one senior leads Green Bay in at bats with 198 and has accumulated a .298 batting average with a .379 on-base percentage and 32 RBI. Vieitez's 36 runs scored are the second-most on the team this season. On the mound for the Bullfrogs, Vieitez has appeared in six games and owns a perfect zero ERA. He has a 1-0 record along with four saves. In nine innings of work, Vieitez has struck out four and has surrendered only six hits.

Garrett Harrison, from St. Cloud State University, is the lone Bullfrogs starting pitcher to be selected to the BLD Showcase. The six-foot-five lefty, whose fastball can reach the low to mid nineties, is 2-3 this season with a 4.76 ERA in ten appearances (nine starts) for the Bullfrogs. In 45.1 innings of work, Harrison has struck out 41 batters. In 2013, Harrison was named the 16th best prospect in the Northwoods League by Baseball America. This past year at St. Cloud State, Harrison held a 3-1 record with a 3.23 ERA.

Another pitcher who consistently hits the low to mid nineties for the Bullfrogs, Dan Becks from St. Edwards University, will be making an appearance in the BLD Showcase. Becks, a redshirt junior, has made 15 appearances this season out of the bullpen for Green Bay and has a 1-0 record with two saves. In 14.2 innings pitched this season, Becks has struck out 13 batters.

The final selection from the Bullfrogs for the BLD Showcase is Franco Guardascione from Palm Beach State College. Guardascione joined the Bullfrogs at the beginning of July and has appeared in 18 games with Green Bay. He has a .239 batting average with the Bullfrogs as well as a .345 on-base percentage along with six RBI.

The first game of the double-header will start at 4:05 p.m. and will match a team of players from the visiting North Division against a team of South Division players. The North team will have players from the Rochester Honkers, Mankato MoonDogs, St. Cloud Rox, Willmar Stingers and two from the Bullfrogs. The home South Division team will have players from the Kenosha Kingfish, Green Bay Bullfrogs, Lakeshore Chinooks and the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Becks and Guardascione will both suit up for the North Division while the remaining four Bullfrogs will play for the South Division in the 4:05 p.m. game.
