Woodall Mows Down Revs, Barnstormers Take Game Two

York Revolution News Release

(Lancaster, Pa.) - Bryan Woodall twirled a complete-game four-hit shutout and the Lancaster Barnstormers relied on a mid-innings deluge to beat the York Revolution 7-0 on Tuesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Barnstormers (12-13) now take a 2-0 lead over the Revolution (15-11) in the War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank.

Woodall (3-0) allowed a mere four singles, walked none, and struck out seven on 104 pitches. Mike McClendon (0-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in six innings.

After each starter faced the minimum in the first three innings, Lancaster finally broke through in the fourth when Kevin Ahrens lifted a solo homer to the short porch in right field.

McClendon faltered further in the fifth, walking the leadoff man and allowing a single. Jeff Kobernus hit a potential double play ball that Bryan Pounds threw into the dugout, bringing home another. After a Travis Witherspoon walk, both Witherspoon and Kobernus moved up a base on a double steal, allowing Kobernus to score on an Ahrens sac fly. Caleb Gindl followed with a single to make it 4-0 for the home side.

Lancaster added three more in the sixth, as Charlie Cutler singled home two runs and Witherspoon plated another on a sac fly.

Woodall ended up only needing the run in the fourth, as he kept Revs batters guessing all night long. He retired 13 in a row to start the game and gave up just four singles, rarely even allowing hard contact on foul balls.

Joel Guzman broke up the perfect game in the fifth with a single underneath first baseman Mike McDade's glove. Jason Repko, James Simmons, and Josh Wilson had the other three hits for the Revs.

Ahrens drove in two runs on the home run and sac fly, while Cutler finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. McDade scored twice on a couple walks and a single.

Julio DePaula pitched a scoreless seventh inning in his season debut for York, while Daniel Carela got through the eighth unscathed.

Notes: With an 0-for-4 night, Isaias Tejeda's hitting streak ends at 10 games. At two hours seven minutes, the game finished five minutes north of the Revs' shortest nine-inning game in franchise history, a 2-1 loss at Bridgeport in 2:02 on June 17, 2014. Woodall has allowed just six hits over 18.0 scoreless innings his last two starts, and has allowed just two earned run in 38.0 innings on the season. He has also spun 23.0 scoreless innings in his last three starts against the Revs, dating to last season. York's streak of four consecutive series wins is snapped, still with the opportunity for a split. The Revs have dropped back-to-back games for just the second time all season and first since a four-game skid, April 26-28. The War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank resumes on Wednesday when Jorge Martinez of York squares off with Austin Bibens-Dirkx of Lancaster. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call.
