Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (8-16) defeated the Somerset Patriots (17-8) 10-4 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the opener of a four game series on Tuesday night. The victory snaps a three game losing streak for the 'Fish, and hands the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Champions their third consecutive loss.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (2-1) picked up the victory, tossing six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out five, hitting a batter and giving up a home run. Somerset Starting Pitcher Darin Gorski did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting five and one third innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits, walking two, striking out five and throwing a wild pitch. Mike Thomas (2-1) was tagged with the loss after facing three batters and giving up a run and a hit.

Somerset took a 1-0 lead off Albaladejo in the top half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Aharon Eggleston, plating Yovan Gonzalez with the game's first run after he reached on a leadoff single. Bridgeport took their first lead of the night in the home half of the third off Gorski with a pair of runs on an RBI double by Rossmel Perez and a run scoring single by Luis Rodriguez, and just like that the 'Fish had a 2-1 edge. Somerset answered right back in the next half inning again off Albaladejo to tie the game at two on a solo home run by Matt Fields to left, and regained the lead in the fifth on Eggleston's run scoring single. Somerset continued to put up a picket fence with yet another single run in the sixth (their fourth consecutive inning with one run scored) to extend the lead to 4-2 on an RBI double by Gonzalez, plating Fields who began the rally with a two base hit of his own.

Doing what they do best, Bridgeport continued to mount a comeback against the visitors in the bottom of the sixth, taking their second lead of the night, one they would never relinquish. Dan Johnson led off with a single. With one out, Luis Domoromo singled to put runners at the corners, and that was it for Gorski, as he was replaced by fellow southpaw Thomas. Wilkin Ramirez would tie the game at four with a booming double to straightaway center field, driving home Johnson and Domoromo, and advanced to third on the throw home. The Bluefish were not done there, as Ramirez would sprint down the line from third with the go ahead run on an error by Somerset second baseman Darwin Perez, and in the blink of an eye Bridgeport erased a two run deficit and led 5-4. Looking for insurance, the 'Fish got exactly that after the fans got up and stretched out their arms and legs in the seventh. With Evan Meek on in relief, Bridgeport went to work, sending eight men to the plate and collecting four runs to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Johnson plated a pair with a triple, would later score on a wild pitch thrown by Meek, and Ramirez drove home his third run of the night with a groundout. A run scoring single by Luis Hernandez in the eighth was the icing on the cake, as the 'Fish came away with much needed 10-4 victory, pounding out 14 hits in the process.
