Bees Win Fourth Straight, Top Blue Crabs 6-3

(Waldorf, MD.) On the strength of back-to-back home runs and strong pitching, the New Britain Bees extended their winning streak to four games with a 6-3 win in the series opener on the road against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

The Bees' offense came out firing from the start of the game. Following a walk to Brandon Chaves by Southern Maryland starter Gaby Hernandez, Jovan Rosa put the Bees on the board with a two-run home run. The Bees dugout barely had finished celebrating Rosa's home run when, on a 1-0 pitch, Craig Maddox hit his first home run of the season, marking the first time in franchise history the Bees' hit back-to-back home runs.
After a Gustavo Molina home run tied the game at three in the third, the Bees answered back immediately, taking the lead for good with three runs in their half of the fourth. The big hit came off the bat of Jon Jones, who drove in Jon Griffin and Jonathan Roof with a two-run double. Jones later scored on Anthony Hewitt's RBI double for the final run of the night.
In his fourth start (and fifth appearance overall), Josh Zeid turned in the best performance of his season thus far. The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits while lasting a season high six innings. He also struck out five Blue Crabs while allowing just two free passes in picking up his first win as a member of the Bees.
The Bees and Blue Crabs will resume their first series together with a doubleheader tomorrow, with the first game scheduled to begin at 10:35 AM. Game two is set to start around 1:35 PM. Shawn Haviland will start one of the games for the Bees, while the Blue Crabs will send Tim Sexton and Scott Snodgress to the hill.
Bees Buzz: Brandon Fry (2 IP) and Craig Stem (1 IP) combined to hold the Blue Crabs scoreless over the final three innings of the game...Jovan Rosa' first inning home run was the 50th of his professional career...Craig Maddox's home run extended his hitting streak to five games, and he now has two hitting streaks this year of at least five games (six games- 4/21-4/30)...
