Down East Wood Ducks News Release

SALEM, VA - An early spark of offense was not enough in the end as the Red Sox (28-29, 59-64) took the finale 5-4 and the series two games to one. The Wood Ducks (18-38, 53-73) held a 3-0 lead through four innings but fell late in the contest.

Anderson Tejeda opened the scoring with a solo blast to right-center in the first inning. It marked his 17th homer and 67th RBI furthering career-highs in both categories for the shortstop. In the second, Alex Kowalczyk lined a single the other way to bring in two and push the lead to 3-0.

It was plenty of support for Tyler Thomas' first start with the Wood Ducks. The recently acquired lefty tossed five innings while only allowing two hits and one run in a no decision. He struck out three batters and only faced three batters over the minimum.

Salem plated a run in the fifth, but really formed a rally against the DEWD bullpen in the sixth. Kaleb Fontenot walked two and hit a batter before allowing back-to-back two-run hits. Salem took a 5-3 lead through six innings.

Down East didn't go down without a fight. Brendon Davis led off the seventh with a double and came in to score on a Leody Taveras groundout. Earlier in the game, Taveras extended his hitting streak to seven streak games.

In the end, the Wood Ducks would only collect one more hit against closer Algenis Martinez. He locked down his sixth save of the year working two and a third innings.

The Woodies continue their final northern division road trip with three games in Wilmington, DE against the Blue Rocks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. in all three games Monday through Wednesday.
