Down East Wood Ducks News Release

KINSTON, NC - The Keys and Wood Ducks were suspended on Saturday night due to a local transformer mallfunction, which caused two banks of lights and the scoreboard to lose power. While attempts were made to restore power in a timely fashion, it was deemed suspending the game would be the final conclusion.

The game will be resumed with Down East leading 4-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The outage occured between innings on Saturday, as the game will be completed before the teams reconvene for the regularly scheduled nine inning game shortly after.

A pair of homers were the catalyst in the Woodies' lead. Anderson Tejeda hit a two-run shot in the fourth, and Melvin Novoa added a solo homer in the fifth. Novoa would drive in another run in the seventh on an infield single in the seventh inning to push the Wood Ducks' lead to 4-0.

Steven Bruce was terrific to start the game, as he recorded six shutout innings on only 62 pitches. He will be in line to be the game's winning pitcher if the Wood Ducks hold on to the lead when the game resumes.

Tickets for Sunday's regularly scheduled game are valid for both the resumed game and the nine inning game to follow. Tickets for Saturday's game WILL NOT be honored as the game is official (five innings completed).
