Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves took down the Portland Sea Dogs in a rain shortened game on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field by a score of 5-0. The win ended Erie's three-game losing streak.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Portland starter Kris Johnson. Max Leon led off the inning with his 29th walk of the season and got to second on a passed ball. Danny Worth followed with a single up the middle, scoring Leon, giving the ‘Wolves a 1-0 lead. Worth advanced to second on a balk and scored with two outs on a Jeff Frazier base hit for a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third, the ‘Wolves added another run. Worth led off with his second single of the game and was doubled over to third base by Wilkin Ramirez. Max St. Pierre grounded out to short and on the play, Worth scored to make it 3-0.

The ‘Wolves would add to the lead once again in the top of the sixth against reliever Carlos Vasquez. Leon walked for the second time in the game with one out and Worth singled for his third hit of the game to put runners on first and second for Ramirez. Ramirez doubled into right field, scoring Leon for a 4-0 lead. With runners on second and third, the Sea Dogs intentionally walked St. Pierre to attempt to get an inning ending double play. With Frazier batting, a wild pitch allowed Worth to score, giving Erie a 5-0 lead. The umpires then called for the tarp and eventually called the game.

Danny Christensen (3-4) picked up his second complete game of the season, shutting out the Sea Dogs for five innings allowing just two hits. He walked two and struck out three and finished the game retiring the final eight batters he faced. It was the third straight win for Christensen and the ‘Wolves have won the last four games he has started. The complete game was the second of the season for Christensen.

The shutout win was the first for Erie since April 23 when they shutout Harrisburg 7-0.
