
Hatch RBI single breaks up shutout in 7-1 loss to Akron

Manchester, NH- Scott Campbell drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to break up Ryan Edell's perfect game bid, Eric Nielsen broke up the no-hitter with a single and Anthony Hatch hit a run-scoring single to spoil the shutout as the Akron Aeros beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-1, Wednesday night before 3,077 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Edell (3-4), who retired the first 22 Fisher Cats' batters he faced, worked 7.1 innings to earn the victory. The left-hander struck out five and walked one.
Akron (30-26) jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Brandon Magee in the top of the first inning. Trevor Crowe (2-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R) doubled, Chris Gimenez (3-for-3, 2 BB, 2 R) and Wes Hodges (0-for-2, 2 BB, SF, R) walked to load the bases for Bronson Sardinha (2-for-5, 2 RBI), who hit a two-run single to center. Stephen Head (0-for-3, SF, RBI, BB) added a sacrifice fly.
Hodges' second-inning sac fly boosted the Aeros' lead to 4-0.
Magee (0-8) allowed four runs on six hits in six innings to suffer the loss. He walked five and did not record a strikeout.
Seth Overbey allowed an RBI double to Matt Whitney (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, BB) in the seventh inning and a two-run single to Josh Rodriguez (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) in the eighth inning.
New Hampshire (22-36) looks to win the series Thursday night when left-hander Ricky Romero (2-3, 6.48) takes the mound against Akron right-hander Kevin Dixon (2-4, 4.37) at 7:05pm. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
Thursday night is Law Enforcement Night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show. The Fisher Cats will wear specially-designed New Hampshire Law Enforcement uniforms, which will be auctioned off during the game to benefit the Manchester Police Athletic League.
