Wolves Tamed by Colts 4-1

The Barrie Colts bounced back with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves, lead by stellar goaltending and great special teams play.

Friday night served as the second game of Barrie's first three in three this season.

The Colts were looking to get off to a better start than they did the night before, after allowing three goals to the Niagara IceDogs in St. Catherines, and they were able to do so.

Things got off to slow start as the Wolves controlled most of the play in the first, up until the final couple of minutes. Late in the frame it was two Barrie goals just a minute apart that got the scoring started. First it was Ben Hawerchuk finishing off a beautiful passing play from Lucas Chiodo in front of the goal for his 5th of the season.

Right after that, it was Barrie's captain extending the lead. Justin Murray saw a screen in front of the Sudbury goaltender and put a slapshot through the screen which found its way behind Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for his 1st goal of the season.

It was more Barrie as the puck dropped in the second period. A couple of penalties in a row for the Colts left a huge opportunity for the Wolves to get back in the game. Instead it was Barrie capitalizing shorthanded twice.

Matej Pekar was able to get a break and had his shot go off the post on his first attempt but stayed with the play and put home the rebound for his 6th of the year. Just twenty-three seconds later, Chiodo pulled off the move that Pekar has been perfecting this season. The one handed deke was good enough to beat Luukkonen and end his night between the pipes, giving Barrie the 4-0 lead on the Chruchill, ON natives 7th of the season.

There was just a lone goal by the Wolves' David Levin in the third, which broke the shutout bid for Jet Greaves who made his 2nd start of the season. Greaves was a key reason Barrie was able to take a lead in the first period and continued his strong play throughout the entire game stopping 28 Wolves shots. He is now 1-1 on the season after a 2-1 loss to Mississauga earlier this year where he also played strong and earned 3rd star honours.

Barrie is back in action tomorrow night to wrap up their three in three with a rematch against the Niagara IceDogs who handed the Colts a 7-2 loss on Thursday night in St. Catherines.
