The Barrie Colts opened the J. Ross Robertson Cup Final on the road Wednesday night against the Kitchener Rangers, battling back twice before ultimately falling 5-2.

Kitchener opened the scoring late in the first period as Andrew MacNeil found the back of the net with just over nine minutes remaining to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.

The Colts answered back in the second period thanks to Ben Wilmott. Wilmott buried the equalizer to even the game at 1-1 and shift momentum toward Barrie.

The back-and-forth frame continued as Dylan Edwards restored the Rangers' lead midway through the period, but Wilmott responded once again, netting his second of the night to tie the game 2-2 before the end of the second.

In the third period, the Rangers pulled away. Goals from Andrew MacNeil and Cameron Arquette gave Kitchener control late in regulation before Sam O'Reilly sealed the victory with an empty-net goal as the Rangers claimed Game 1 by a final score of 5-2.
