The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled defenseman MARK POPOVIC from the Chicago Wolves. In addition, the Wolves have signed defenseman JON AWE and have recalled defenseman TIM WEDDERBURN from the Rockford IceHogs of the United Hockey League.

POPOVIC registered one assist, his first career National Hockey League point, in two outings with the Thrashers earlier this season. The 24-year-old blueliner has tallied 11 helpers, 15 points and 33 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Wolves this season.

Last year, the Stoney Creek, Ontario, native was tied for eighth among AHL defensemen with a career-high 12 goals in 73 games with the Wolves after entering the season with eight markers in 221 career AHL tilts.

AWE leads the ECHL with 16 power-play goals and ranks ninth overall with 40 points in 33 contests with the Gwinnett Gladiators this season. The Memphis, Tenn., native also paces ECHL blueliners with 18 goals and ranks third with 22 assists. The 26-year-old defenseman was held scoreless in two American Hockey League contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins earlier this year.

Overall, AWE has appeared in 20 career AHL games with the Portland Pirates (2005-06), Providence Bruins (2005-06) and Penguins, collecting one assist and eight penalty minutes. He was named to the ECHL's All-Rookie Team last season after accruing 14 goals and 35 points in 49 tilts with the Gladiators during his professional debut.

WEDDERBURN, who has not appeared in any contests with the Wolves this season, has accrued six assists, 12 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 27 games with Rockford this year. The Okotoks, Alberta, native racked up six assists and 57 penalty minutes, and shared third on the club with a +15 plus/minus rating in 73 games with the Wolves last season.
